From Skysports | Quote: | Wigan got their preparations for the new Super League season off to a winning start with a comfortable 34-6 victory over National League side Leigh.
The Warriors touched down a total of six tries on their visit to the Coliseum, with new signings Mark Calderwood, Scott Logan, Mickey Higham and Iafeta Paleaaesina all making their debuts.
Wigan's new-look front row looked an improvement on last season's, with the game also marking the return to action of Sean O'Loughlin - the new Warriors skipper playing for an hour after spending 10 months out with a serious knee injury.
Wigan's first try came after Leigh were penalised following a late tackle on Logan, the resulting punt downfield allowing Dennis Moran to feed through for Joel Tomkins to score.
Danny Tickle failed to convert, but succeeded after scoring his own try just five minutes later.
Leigh came back into the game on 14 minutes, when winger Lee Greenwood picked up an Aaron Heremaia grubber kick score in the left-hand corner.
But Wigan then extended their lead with a delightful try: O'Loughlin dummying his way through Leigh's defensive line before releasing to Kevin Brown, whose pace saw him score under the posts.
Tickle converted, before Leigh substitute Liam Coleman was dispatched to the sin-bin for a high tackle.
Both sides were down to 12 men when Brown was similarly penalised for holding down in the tackle, but only after Harrison Hansen had extended Wigan's margin yet further, Wayne Godwin this time converting.
David Vaealiki scored Wigan's fifth try on 53 minutes after chasing down a kick on the left flank, with Tickle once again kicking the extras.
And the Warriors' final score came on 70 minutes when Godwin scored following a Paleaaesina break, with Tickle duly converting.

A good start to preseason for the warriors, looks like they should be an improvement on last season |
